93 AM (Sweet Spot, Outstanding)
“Not surprisingly given that the two vineyards abut one another, this is aromatically similar to the Baudines if perhaps just a bit riper. On the palate though there is noticeably more volume and richness if not quite the same refinement on the seductively textured and balanced finish that flashes focused power as well as outstanding length. This is one of the better examples of Embrazées that I have had from Morey and one that should also age effortlessly.” – Allen Meadows, Burghound (Jun 2023)
About Thomas Morey
The Morey family has been growing grapes in Chassagne-Montrachet since the 17th century. Thomas founded his 13 hectare domaine in 2006 after his father’s vines (Bernard Morey et Fils) were split between him and his brother Vincent. Stylistically his wines are different from the rest of his family, utilising less new oak, picking earlier, and with a greater focus on purity and tension.
Thomas cultivates his plots organically (certified since 2017) and owns Chardonnay vines in the villages of Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, and Saint-Aubin. The whites see a traditional vinification with natural fermentation in 350-liter barrels (maximum 15% new). They are then aged on their fine lees for 16 to 18 months before bottling. They are excellent wines that display exceptional purity and finesse.
