Mixed Case - Reds
Our red selection showcases a range of wines; from classic regions (Rioja, Rhone, and Beaujolais) to some of the most exciting "new" regions (Etna, Bierzo, and Swartland). This red wine case consists of 12 bottles, two each of the following six wines:
Raul Perez Ultreia Saint Jacques 2017
Raúl Pérez is recognised as one of Spain’s most talented, innovative, and restless winemakers. The Ultreia Saint Jacques is 100% Mencía and is aged for a year in neutral oak barrels. It is one of the best value wines in Bierzo, if not all of Spain.
Château Pesquié Terrasses Rouge 2018
The Terrasses Rouge is an easy drinking blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah. It offers up red berries and fine tannins. The Terrasses from Château Pesquié offer tremendous value. Château Pesquié is one of the leading estates in the Ventoux , a region in the Southern Rhone with a cooler climate. This is made from hand-harvested grapes that have been grown organically.
Artuke Pies Negros Rioja 2017
Pies Negros is predominantly made from Tempranillo with a small amount of Graciano. This wine shows ripe bright red fruits and firm tannins and has a long finish. It is an excellent value wine. Brothers Arturo and Kiki - hence Artuke - manage this Rioja estate which follows winemaking practices that are more Burgundian than is typical in the region. They focus on terroir and displaying the difference between each vineyard and parcel of grapes, as opposed to following the traditional Rioja DO classifications.
Mullineux Kloof Street Swartland Rouge 2018
The Kloof Street Rouge is predominantly a blend of Syrah and Tinta Barocca with spicy, rich dark fruit and notable tannins. It comes from Mullineux, one of the top wineries in South Africa. The estate has old vines that are farmed sustainably in Swartland, north of Cape Town.
Tenuta delle Terre Nere Etna Rosso 2017
One of the pioneering estates in Etna, Sicily, Tenuta dell Terre Nere farms mostly pre-phylloxera vines and is certified organic. The Etna Rosso, a blend of Nerello Mascalesse and Nerello Capuccio, is elegant with red fruits, a volcanic mineral streak common in the best wines from Mount Etna, and a long finish.
Domaine des Terres Dorees (Jean-Paul Brun) Morgon 2018
"From vines in Bellevue, the 2018 Morgon wafts from the glass with aromas of red plums, mulberries, smoked meat and spices. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, with a rich, layered core of fruit, powdery tannins and lively acids. This comes warmly recommended." - William Kelley, Wine Advocate
Jean-Paul Brun launched Domaine Terres Dorees in Beaujolais in 1979. He favours traditional Burgundian vinification (no carbonic maceration), resulting in deeper and more structured wines. He farms organically, uses indigenous yeasts, and only adds sulphur at bottling.
