Barbacan Valtellina Superiore Valgella, Pizamej 2016
The Pizamej is a rich yet elegant Nebbiolo with concentrated red fruit, smooth tannins and a long finish. These grapes are from a vineyard planted in the 1930s.
Barbacan farms seven hectares in Valtellina, a valley in the Italian Alps near the Swiss border. The incredibly steep slopes of Valtellina require 'heroic viticulture', as the locals call it. This means all work is manual and farming is organic. In the cellar, Barbacan practices minimal intervention winemaking, native yeast fermentation, and no sulphur is added until bottling.
